How to Massage

Most muscle pain is caused by tension and overuse, which may lead to inflammation. Inflammation is a severe condition of the connecting tissues that cover the muscles.

Everyone experiences muscle pain from time to time. It might be due to over activity, overstretching of the muscles, advanced age, and even inactivity. Muscles adjust to extended or excessive movement by causing microscopic tears in the tiny fibers of the ligaments and tendons. This response is natural, but the muscles need time to recover before the next session.

Most muscle pain is caused by tension and overuse, which may lead to inflammation. Inflammation is a severe condition of the connecting tissues that cover the muscles. For those in their prime, muscle pain may be due to weakness of the muscles and the inability to withstand extended use.

Muscle pain syndrome may affect a single muscle or a muscle group. Sometimes the location where the pain is felt may not be the actual location where the pain is being generated. Professionals believe that in these cases, the actual location of the injury or strain creates a point that triggers pain in another area. This particular type of pain is called referred pain.

Other possible causes of this condition include injury to an intervertebral disc, general fatigue or stress, repetitive motions, overuse of the muscles, injury, illness, medical conditions such as heart attack and stomach irritation, and some prescription medications.

Because muscle pain is a common problem for many people, the search for effective ways to quickly relieve muscle pain is common. Effective muscle pain remedies include a hot shower and ice applied directly to the soreness. These methods are usually great for obtaining fast, although temporary, relief. Non-prescription drugs like ibuprofen, naproxen sodium, and aspirin may also be helpful. Stronger, prescription medications such as carisoprodol (Soma), cyclobenzaprine, and Skelaxin may also be used.

Here are some great methods and tips for relieving muscle pain:
  1. Many athletes use the RICE method to avoid injury during practice. This method consists of Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. First, rest your sore muscles for 48 hours. While resting, apply ice cubes wrapped in a thin cloth to the affected areas of your body for 20 minutes at a time.

  2. Go to your medicine cabinet for help. Aspirin or ibuprofen will help reduce the pain for at least half an hour.

  3. Melt pain away with a warm bath. This will improve the circulation in your damaged muscle and speed up the removal of lactic acid. Muscle waste can contribute to the pain.

  4. Massage the affected area with a warm cloth. Stop rubbing if it makes the pain worse. A massage is usually a good method for relieving pain. It can be especially comforting and helpful if done by a good masseuse.

  5. Put balm or a liniment containing menthol under a warm pad on the sore or painful area.

Here are some other effective pain relievers that can be of great help.

  1. Emu oil is very similar to the natural oils found in the human body. This makes it easy for the skin to absorb. Since it’s absorbed easily, it goes straight to the source of the pain and doesn’t leave a greasy feeling. It also helps the muscles to relax.

  2. MSM, or methyl sulfonyl methane, is used all over the world for relief from aching joints. Most muscle pains are caused by inflammation or a buildup of toxins in the joints, muscles, and interstitial fluids. MSM makes the cell walls more permeable and able to release toxins and absorb nutrients.

  3. Arthro-Pain cream is specially useful when you’re having trouble sleeping due to joint or muscle pain. It is odorless, won’t stain your clothing, and is formulated to be alkaline in order to facilitate the absorption of nutrients and the detoxification of the body.

  4. Muscle relaxants like carisoprodol (the generic name for Soma) provide major relief from soreness, stiffness, and pain from strains, sprains, injuries, and muscle spasms. Be sure to consult with a doctor before using these medications.

If you’ve tried all of these remedies and nothing has worked, follow up with a visit to your doctor. Muscle pain may also be caused by various medical conditions and even mineral deficiencies. Your doctor might prescribe a supplement or a prescription medication to treat the cause of your muscle pain. He might recommend another remedy suited especially to you. Left untreated, muscle pain can lead to a more serious condition or injury. When your body is involved and simple remedies don’t work, consulting a doctor is the best idea.
