How to Massage

Erotic Massage Oils

Is there anything more sensual than a long, slow massage? Fingers kneading and massaging, slippery palms sliding over silky skin, touch and scent and sensation – it’s pure erotic heaven. If you’re looking for something to put a little spice into your sweet romance, spending an evening or three playing with erotic massage oils – and each other – can be just the touch of flavor that your relationship needs.

Why use an erotic massage oil? The most obvious reason is, of course, for lubrication. Professional masseurs refer to it as the ‘slip’ – how easily the hands move over your lover’s skin when you’re giving a massage with erotic massage oils. Ideally, you want to choose an oil that lets your hands glide over muscles and skin without making it impossible to grip when you want to. Go light – a lightweight oil with a light scent is best for giving erotic massages. A water or vegetable-based oil that’s easily absorbed by the skin is great for lubricating, and doesn’t leave you and your partner feeling sticky and greasy afterwards.

While we’re on the subject of lubrication – most erotic massage oils aren’t meant to serve as sexual lubricants. Even so, they very often end up being used that way – intentionally or not. There are a few things to keep in mind when choosing an erotic massage oil.

First, remember that petroleum based products are not condom-friendly. They tend to degrade latex, which can result in pinpoint breaks in the condom. If you’ll be using a condom later, choose an oil that’s based on palm, safflower or other vegetable oil.

Second, bear in mind that some ingredients can irritate sensitive skin and tissues. Avoid using oils that contain nonoxynol-9, a spermicidal that can turn your erotic evening of massage into a painful night of itching. In addition, if you’re massaging a woman, stick with water-based erotic massage oils to avoid the possibility of yeast or urinary tract infections from the ingredients.

Finally, be mindful of the scents that you choose. Heavy scents can seem very sensual at first, but rapidly induce light-headedness or nausea. If you make your own erotic massage oils using essential oils, remember that a few drops go a very long way. Add a drop or two to safflower oil, sunflower oil or a high quality purchased massage oil base. A good quality, 100% edible erotic massage oil is the least likely to cause any problems at all, no matter where it ends up.
