Using Proper Hygiene
Because most massage oils and creams are made of vegetable and other
natural products, they can become a natural breeding ground for bacteria
or viruses. This is especially important if you give massages often to
more than one person, but even if you only use massage oils and creams
with one person, you should avoid dipping your bare fingers into the
bottle or jar. Instead, pour from the bottle onto the body or into your
hand without touching the lip of the bottle. If you’re using a jar, use
a clean spatula or spoon to scoop out the cream and then spread with
your fingers. You can even scoop out enough cream for one massage into a
smaller jar or bowl, and use your fingers in that – just don’t return
any leftovers to the jar to avoid starting anything growing.
