Shopping at the Mall for Massage
Oils Spencer Gifts (and its offshoots like Hot Topics and other national chain novelty stores) still sell massage oils, just like they did when I was in my teens. They usually carry a small selection of ‘personal use’ massage oils, often advertised for erotic massages. If all you’re looking for is a party gift or something to spice up your love life, then you’ll find what you’re looking for there – usually in a kit with 3-5 2 oz bottles in different flavors. If you’re looking for something in the therapeutic or healing line, however, you’ll do far better at your general nutrition store, or even the bath and body lotion store at your local mall. Both will carry larger bottles and jars of massage oils and body lotions in a variety of scents. You’ll be able to purchase essential oils like rose, citrus, spearmint and bergamot in small bottles that you can add to carrier oils for massage purposes. Among my personal favorites are the Aromatherapy line of massage oils from Bath and Body Works. Note that their selection changes from season to season, so if you find something you absolutely love, be sure to stock up on it. Finally, if you have a massage school or studio in town, you can check with them. Many sell their own line of massage oils, custom blended for you, or can put you in touch with their own suppliers of body and massage oils.
